Just what is a ritual? To me, a ritual is simply a visible act performed with invisible intent. In the mundane world, the simple act of sweeping the floor is a housekeeping chore. In the spiritual world, sweeping the floor becomes a ritual when the intent is to rid the space of emotional debris. Drink a glass of water and quench a physical thirst. Whisper positive words on the water first and quench the spirit.
Wrap a ribbon around the clasped hands of a couple in love and everyone knows the action proclaims their commitment. As a Connecticut wedding officiant and a Certified Life-Cycle Celebrant, it is that connection between the visible and the invisible that I explore when creating rituals.
